A 'Date' With My Linguist...

My Dancing Boy has many, varied hobbies. One being a Speech Meet participant...

We started our Speech Meet day by driving the other two boys to school, and then it was off to have our special day together.

First we had breakfast at The Original Pancake House in Birmingham:
(Bacon pancakes were ordered, and devoured.)

Then, we meandered our way to Troy, and made a stop at Starbucks for coffee (me) and bottled water (him). We stayed for a while, lingering over our drinks, in a cozy spot, and spent time practicing for his Oral Reading Competition:

Sometimes, there are things your kids do that remind you of yourself. This is not one of those things for me! I am completely terrified of public speaking (unless you are a six or seven year old-), but my Dancing Boy thrives on these Speech Meets where a judge actually critiques how you read orally.

(Side note: He is currently also studying lines as "John Darling" in the upcoming Peter Pan school play:)

So here he is, calmly smiling right before walking in to give his presentation:

Cool as a cucumber.

I am the one with sweaty palms, and fluttering heart full of nerves
He is totally chill:

And for another year in a row, he earned a 'Superior ' ribbon, the highest award to earn:

In years past, we have made a stop at the LEGO store,
but this year, he said he wanted to go to Barnes and Noble to buy a book.
Now THAT is something I can relate to: the love of a good book!
(This kid IS mine!)

So I said, "Dancing Boy, it is Speech Meet Day! You can get TWO books!"
