Girls Weekend

Every year in November, the cottage is my go to place to celebrate my birthday for a weekend...
(Actually, a birthday is simply an excuse to have the cottage to myself, sans boys-, add girlfriends-)

This year, some friends couldn't make the trip, but my first best friend could: my sister.

It turned out to be just the two of us. And it was the best weekend.

After a fall filled with a lot of worry and a lot of stress (helping our parents transition to a care facility, working on managing their bills, taking them to the doctor's, and trying to sell their home...and clean it out.) a weekend away was what was so needed. Because I work full time, my sister has had the brunt of the work, so she was the one who needed a weekend free from it all-.

We shopped our way up north,
(Shopping skills inherited from mom-)
Had dinner in West Branch,
(At The Willow Tree, a fancy place with great wine, and a warm fireplace-)
Then headed toward the cottage by dark to end the night watching Jim Gaffigan and laughing so hard together.

After sleeping in,
(Heavenly-)
We visited antique shops, and the local St. Vinnie's,
We came back to the cottage to watch Netflix.

It is never a "wild & crazy" time up at the cottage, but it is relaxing, and rejuvenating, and so peaceful there in the fall-.
And it was so wonderful being together!

Sunday morning, it was opening gun season, so we heard the blasts from distant rifles as we slowly got ready for home.
We took a quick look at the beach, and headed for home.

Home, following this guy:
He had his two deer strapped to the trunk of his car, which had us completely grossed out.

Anyways,
It was the perfect weekend away-just us girls...
